Tech Talk: Measuring Density of Additively-Manufactured Materials
The impacts of porosity in additively-manufactured (AM) specimens on mechanical properties are well-known, even though the representative measurement of such properties is still a focus of standardization efforts with ISO/ASTM TC261/F42. Certain materials and AM processes exhibit porosity effects that relate only to pore morphologies, at least within a range of lower porosity. For other materials and process, these effects correlate directly with total porosity, particularly up to a critical threshold. In this webinar, NSL's Director of Technology Development Dr. Dave van der Wiel will discuss the various techniques commonly used to characterize the porosity and density of additively-manufactured bodies, with emphasis on the analysis of the statistical significance of resulting data and interpretation of data.
